The Naikan Experience
The Naikan House is a secluded haven, discreetly tucked away in the Hollywood Hills. Here, you can find a serene harmony that combines the splendor of nature with modern amenities. Naikan (pronounced nye-kahn) offers a wealth of treasures: stunning Japanese gardens, breathtaking and inspiring views, and ample space for personal reflection and socializing with friends.
Naikan, a Japanese practice that merges meditation and gratitude, translates to "inner observation." It centers on embracing "what is" rather than dwelling on the past or imagining the future.

YESTERDAY AND TODAY
Naikan neighbor, the legendary Hollywood restaurant, Yamashiro (meaning “Mountain Palace”), was the dream of the Bernheimer brothers, who wanted to build a private estate to house their vast and priceless collection of Asian art. Their dream finally became a reality in 1914. Hundreds of skilled craftsmen were brought over from the Orient to create this resplendent teak and cedar mansion with carved rafters lacquered in gold, exotic gardens with over 30,000 varieties of trees and shrubs, waterfalls, a miniature Japanese village with miniature bronze houseboats floating on tiny canals, and even a private zoo.
